SEPTEMBER 2011 PROJECT
This month we had over 60 volunteers come out to host & participate in a health festival for children. We celebrated this event with games and activities that educated the children about healthy eating and staying active with exercise.
AUGUST 2011
We held a clothing & backpack drive for RRISD and Georgetown ISD students in need. We were able to collect a large amount of donations to help kids and teens head back for the new school year.
JULY 2011 PROJECT
Y.O.U. volunteers enjoyed making Jars of Hope for cancer patients with the Cancer Connection. We put together beautiful, hand-decorated jars filled with inspirational sayings and quotes. These jars bring hope and joy to people in the life-threating battle to overcome cancer.
JUNE 2011 PROJECT
Cancelled due to extreme heat.
MAY 2011 PROJECT
Y.O.U. hosted a Military Appreciation Breakfast on Memorial Day weekend for soldiers returning to Fort Hood. Round Rock ISD schools made banners welcoming the troops home. Over 45 volunteers helped with the breakfast. They also packaged 100 snack bags for more troops that were returning later in the weekend.
APRIL 2011 PROJECT
Over 300 volunteers participated in planting 88 trees at Round Rock West Park. We also had over 50 paper cranes made to help the victims of the Japanese earthquake. Special thanks to Elizabeth Leyva & the City of Round Rock Parks Department for all your hard work coordinating this event.
MARCH 2011 PROJECT
Y.O.U. volunteers helped with the kids game booths at the 16th Annual Daffodil Festival and also conducted surveys, asking the kids questions about their understanding of those with disabilities.
FEBRUARY 2011 PROJECT
Y.O.U. hosted its 3rd Annual Valentine's With A Heart party. We enjoyed spending time with the senior residents of A Touch of Home (assisted living facility). Bingo, cookies, music and Valentine's cards made for a wonderful party fo the senior residents.
JANUARY 2011 PROJECT
MLK Day of Service project cancelled due to muddy conditions.
DECEMBER 2010 PROJECT
To end 2010, Y.O.U. packaged 743 Mission Morale bags to be sent to the troops in Afghanistan. We also gave our amazing members from 2010 awards for their contibutions to the community. Thanks for a great year Youth Opportunity to Unite!!!!!!
NOVEMBER 2010 PROJECT
Y.O.U. hosted the 5th Annual Family Volunteer Day at Chisholm Trail Middle School. We beautified the school by removing overgrown shrubs, making mosaic stepping stones, adding fresh flowers and plants, adding benches and repainting old ones and installing huge cougar heads next to the front doors. We also did 80 ornaments for Meals on Wheels clients and blankets for Elderhaven and Annie's Way. Volunteers wrote over 500 cards to go inside the Missin Morale packages being shipped to troops in Afghanistan in December.
OCTOBER 2010 PROJECT
Y.O.U. hosted the second annual Fall Festival for Foster Children. We had 57 volunteers participate. Games, food, face painting and pumpkin painting made it a great event for the foster families.
SEPTEMBER 2010 PROJECT
Y.O.U. partnered with the City of Round Rock to clean up Memorial Park after the damage caused by recent flooding. Over 60 volunteers came out to help with this project. We also held a bake sale to benefit animals affected by the Gulf Coast oil Spill. We raised a total of $85.
AUGUST 2010 PROJECT
In August, we organized a school supply drive to benefit Hutto ISD. We were thrilled with the generosity that the community showed. A total of 1,200 items were donated.
JULY 2010 PROJECT
For our July project, our volunteers filled the shelves of the Eagle Locker at Georgetown High School. We donated backpacks, soap, shampoo and all the other daily necessities of life to benefit the homeless students served by the Eagle Locker.
JUNE 2010 PROJECT
Our Painting Pals Project was a fun and fantastic success!!! We had 55 volunteers come out and paint over 80 pieces of art to brighten the walls of the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center located in Round Rock.
MAY 2010 PROJECT
In May, Y.O.U. hosted a community project to promote literacy and volunteerism. The project was pirate themed. We had over 200 books donated to be given to Dell's Children's Hospital and Libraries of Love. Libraries of Love will use the books to help start a children's library at a school in Uganda, Africa. We also had over 75 volunteers come out to help beautify local parks in the Williamson County area.
APRIL 2010 PROJECT
April was the month we walked to fight global hunger. Y.O.U. organized the 2010 Crop Walk. We had 65 walkers join us and we raised $1,000 to combat local and global hunger.
